WHEN THE FIRE REVEALS THE FRAUD

WHEN THE FIRE REVEALS THE FRAUD

By Pastor Joel – Open Heaven Christian Church – Fisher, Arkansas

The Prosperity Gospel, False Shepherds, and the Damning Delusion of a Genie Jesus

“Every man’s work shall be made manifest…” — 1 Corinthians 3:13 (KJV)

Modern Christianity has manufactured a Christ that the apostles would not recognize.

They do not preach the broken Lamb that calls men to die to self and pride.
They do not preach the narrow road of suffering.
They do not preach repentance, self-denial, the crucifixion, or the fact that Jesus said you will be hated by all men.

They preach a polished religious servant—a Jesus who exists to increase comfort, finances, social favor, career success, emotional wellness, and earthly fulfillment.

In thousands of churches, Christ is no longer presented as Lord to be obeyed, but as a divine employee hired to produce man’s best life now.

The sermons are filled with:

  • “Your season of increase”
  • “God wants you rich”
  • “Speak your blessing into existence”
  • “God’s Favor is coming”
  • “Sow a seed (money) for abundance”
  • “God wants you to live your dreams now”

This is not the gospel of the cross.

This is religious consumerism baptized in the name of Jesus.

And according to scripture, all of it is heading for fire.

“Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire…”
1 Corinthians 3:13 (KJV)

1. THE FIRE OF CHRIST WILL EXPOSE WHAT THE CHURCH APPLAUDED

Many ministries praised on earth are building with combustible material

Paul teaches that not every work done in Jesus’ name has eternal substance.

Some build with:

  • gold,
  • silver,
  • precious stones.

Others build with:

  • wood,
  • hay,
  • stubble.

“Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest…”
1 Corinthians 3:12-13 (KJV)

The terrifying reality is this:

A church can be massive, wealthy, televised, emotionally charged, and culturally admired—
and still be constructing an empire of empty hay.

If the ministry is centered on:

  • money,
  • personal ambition,
  • emotional hype,
  • earthly gain,
  • human ego,
  • self-fulfillment,

instead of:

  • repentance,
  • holiness,
  • fear of God,
  • obedience,
  • eternal preparation,

then Christ says its true substance will be tested by flame.

The applause of men is irrelevant.

The conference invitations are irrelevant.

The book sales are irrelevant.

The standing ovations are irrelevant.

Fire does not honor popularity. Fire reveals composition.

2. THE PROSPERITY GOSPEL PREACHES A JESUS WHO SERVES MAN INSTEAD OF MAN SERVING CHRIST

This is the inversion of biblical Lordship

Biblical Christianity teaches:

“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
Luke 9:23 (KJV)

Prosperity Christianity teaches:

“If any man comes after Jesus, Jesus will upgrade his lifestyle.”

Do you see the blasphemous reversal?

The gospel says:

  • die to self,
  • forsake the world,
  • lose your life,
  • suffer with Christ.

“Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”
2 Timothy 3:12 (KJV)

But false shepherds say:

  • come to Jesus for promotion,
  • come to Jesus for debt cancellation,
  • come to Jesus for luxury,
  • come to Jesus for visible favor.

This creates congregations filled not with disciples, but with religious customers.

They do not ask:

“How can I obey Christ?”

They ask:

“What can Christ provide for me?”

That is not worship.

That is sanctified greed.

“Supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.”
1 Timothy 6:5 (KJV)

Paul explicitly warned that there would be ministers who equate godliness with financial gain.

He did not tell Timothy to partner with them.

He said:

withdraw from them.

3. THESE PASTORS ARE NOT SHEPHERDS—THEY ARE MERCHANTS OF SOULS

They preach what itching ears want to hear because truth does not sell well

The modern pulpit is infested with men who know exactly what people crave:

  • affirmation,
  • comfort,
  • promises,
  • self-esteem,
  • prosperity,
  • painless Christianity.

So they package scripture into motivational sedatives.

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.”
2 Timothy 4:3 (KJV)

Notice carefully:

The people are not innocent victims merely trapped by bad leadership.

Scripture says they heap to themselves teachers.

Meaning:

they gather, support, and platform preachers that tell them what their flesh desires.

False teachers exist because fleshly hearers finance them.

This is a symbiotic corruption:

  • wolves need sheep that love deception,
  • and deceived sheep need wolves that will not confront sin.

“And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you…”
2 Peter 2:3 (KJV)

These men are merchants.

Their sermons are products.

Their stages are marketplaces.

Their congregations are revenue streams.

Their “anointing” is monetized charisma.

And multitudes call this church.

4. THE PARISHIONERS WHO ENABLE THEM ARE PARTAKERS IN THE SAME EVIL

Those who fund deception because they love the promises share in the guilt

This is where many churchgoers wrongly excuse themselves:

“Well, I am not the pastor.”

Scripture does not permit that escape.

If you knowingly sit under corruption because you enjoy:

  • the positive messages,
  • the financial promises,
  • the social atmosphere,
  • the ego-stroking encouragement,

then you are not merely attending error—

you are sustaining it.

You are the reason it thrives.

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
Ephesians 5:11 (KJV)

You cannot fellowship with darkness and pretend innocence.

You cannot sow tithes into lies and pretend clean hands.

You cannot applaud wolves because they make you feel hopeful.

You cannot support ministries that refuse repentance and still claim neutrality.

God says reprove them—not finance them.

Furthermore:

“Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God… If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not… For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.”
2 John 1:9-11 (KJV)

To endorse false doctrine is to become a participant in its evil.

That includes:

  • attendance,
  • offerings,
  • promotion,
  • loyalty,
  • defense of the ministry.

The pew is not automatically innocent.

Sometimes the pew is the oxygen supply of the deception.

5. MANY WHO THINK THEY ARE “BLESSED” ARE ACTUALLY BEING FATtened FOR JUDGMENT

Material increase is not proof of divine approval

This is one of the greatest deceptions in modern church culture:

People interpret financial increase as proof that God is pleased.

Scripture never teaches that earthly abundance equals spiritual favor.

In fact, often the wicked prosper.

“For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm… Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.”
Psalm 73:4,7 (KJV)

Prosperity can accompany divine displeasure.

Comfort can accompany spiritual deadness.

Overflow can accompany eternal poverty.

Jesus gave one of the most severe warnings to materially satisfied religion:

“Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing… and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.”
Revelation 3:17 (KJV)

They thought riches meant blessing.

Christ said riches had blinded them to their true condition.

This is the prosperity church in one verse:

externally shining,
internally bankrupt.

6. MANY OF THESE MINISTRIES ARE LEADING PEOPLE TO HELL WITH A SMILE

Because they remove the offense of the cross

The true gospel wounds before it heals.

It confronts:

  • sin,
  • pride,
  • lust,
  • rebellion,
  • worldliness,
  • hypocrisy.

But false shepherds remove offense because offense empties seats.

So they preach:

  • destiny,
  • increase,
  • happiness,
  • confidence,
  • winning.

Yet leave men unconverted.

“They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.”
Jeremiah 6:14 (KJV)

This is superficial spiritual medicine.

No surgery.
No repentance.
No brokenness.
No conviction.

Just “peace.”

Just “blessing.”

Just “favor.”

While souls remain on the broad road.

“For wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat.”
Matthew 7:13 (KJV)

Many are not entering destruction through atheism alone.

Many are entering destruction through church doors.

7. 1 CORINTHIANS 3:15 IS A TERRIFYING PICTURE OF EMPTY RELIGIOUS LABOR

Saved men may suffer loss, but false systems may reveal they never knew Christ at all

Paul writes:

“If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss…”
1 Corinthians 3:15 (KJV)

Imagine the horror:

A man spent decades building a ministry…

  • campuses,
  • followers,
  • donations,
  • media fame,
  • conferences,

only to stand before Christ and watch it ignite like dry straw.

Because what looked like success was built on:

  • flesh,
  • greed,
  • self-promotion,
  • diluted truth.

What a scene that will be.

And what of those who followed such men because they loved earthly promises more than heavenly truth?

Christ already answered:

“And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”
Matthew 15:14 (KJV)

Not one falls.

Both fall.

The deceiver and the willing deceived.

8. TRUE CHRISTIANITY DOES NOT TEACH MEN TO USE GOD—IT TEACHES MEN TO FEAR GOD

The believer is not promised a pampered earthly kingdom

The apostles were not prosperity celebrities.

They were:

  • hated,
  • imprisoned,
  • beaten,
  • homeless,
  • rejected,
  • slain.

“Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace.”
1 Corinthians 4:11 (KJV)

Today’s televangelical gospel would call the apostles failures.

But Heaven called them faithful.

Why?

Because Christianity was never about possessing this world.

It was about being prepared to leave it.

“For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.”
Hebrews 13:14 (KJV)

The church has become too earthbound.

Too luxury-minded.

Too comfort addicted.

Too blessing intoxicated.

Too cross allergic.

And therefore too spiritually blind.

FINAL WARNING: THE FIRE IS COMING

Every pulpit.
Every offering plate.
Every sermon.
Every altar call.
Every manipulative promise.
Every “seed-faith” scheme.
Every parishioner who financed lies because they loved hearing about earthly blessing—

all of it is moving toward one unavoidable event:

the fire of Jesus Christ.

“Every man’s work shall be made manifest… and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.”
1 Corinthians 3:13 (KJV)

Not how large it was.

Not how famous it was.

Not how profitable it was.

Not how emotional it felt.

But what sort it is.

Gold survives.

Hay screams.

The modern prosperity gospel is dry hay stacked high in religious barns.

And when Christ lights the test, multitudes will discover too late:

the Jesus they were sold was not the Jesus of scripture—

but a marketable genie crafted by wolves and purchased by greedy hearts.

Question?

Are you ensnared by these false teachers who are feeding you lies from their pulpits?
Has God been presented to you as your personal genie who will make your life so great if you follow the Jesus that these false teachers promote?
Are you receiving another Jesus? Another spirit that is not the Holy Spirit by sitting in the pews of these churches?
Are you found guilty before God of enabling them by supporting their ministry that blinds and sends people to hell?

Look at what the scripture teaches…

2 Peter 2:1-2

“Now there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow in their depravity, and because of them the way of truth will be defamed.”

2 Corinthians 11:4

For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted…

If so, has it ever crossed your mind to leave these cesspools that are leading you to hell and will you turn to the true Jesus for truth? This is what the word of God says to you,

2 Corinthians 6:17

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.”
