The Word of God

๐Ÿ“– Bible Study Outline: The Word of God (KJV)

By Pastor Joel – Open Heaven Christian Church – Fisher, Arkansas

I. The Word of God Is Alive and Discerning

๐Ÿ“– Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

โ€œFor the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.โ€

๐Ÿ”Ž Commentary:
This verse shows that God’s Word is not a dead letter, but alive (“quick”) and able to penetrate our innermost being.

๐Ÿ”— OT Connection:

  • Jeremiah 23:29 โ€“ “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?”

II. Faith Is Born Through the Word

๐Ÿ“– Romans 10:17 (KJV)

โ€œSo then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.โ€

๐Ÿ”Ž Commentary:
Godโ€™s Word is the channel through which saving faith is birthed. Without hearing God’s truth, faith cannot arise.

๐Ÿ”— OT Connection:

  • Deuteronomy 6:6-7 โ€“ God commanded His words to be taught diligently to children, showing the importance of daily hearing.

III. Hearing and Obeying Brings Blessing

๐Ÿ“– Luke 11:28 (KJV)

โ€œBut he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.โ€

๐Ÿ”Ž Commentary:
True blessing lies not only in hearing the Word but in obeying it. Jesus emphasizes obedience over religious position.

๐Ÿ”— OT Connection:

  • Psalm 119:2 โ€“ “Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.”

IV. The Word Is the Sword of the Spirit

๐Ÿ“– Ephesians 6:17 (KJV)

โ€œAnd take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.โ€

๐Ÿ”Ž Commentary:
The Word is our spiritual weaponโ€”defensive against temptation and offensive in confronting lies.

๐Ÿ”— OT Connection:

  • Isaiah 49:2 โ€“ “He hath made my mouth like a sharp sword…”

V. New Birth Through the Word

๐Ÿ“– 1 Peter 1:23 (KJV)

โ€œBeing born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.โ€

๐Ÿ”Ž Commentary:
Spiritual rebirth is rooted in the eternal Word. God’s truth is the seed that never dies.

๐Ÿ”— OT Connection:

  • Psalm 119:89 โ€“ “For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.”

VI. The Word Taught by Faithful Leaders

๐Ÿ“– Hebrews 13:7 (KJV)

โ€œRemember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.โ€

๐Ÿ”Ž Commentary:
We are to honor those who have taught us God’s Word and imitate their faith.

๐Ÿ”— OT Connection:

  • Malachi 2:7 โ€“ “For the priest’s lips should keep knowledge…”

VII. The Word of God Rejected by Some

๐Ÿ“– Acts 13:46 (KJV)

โ€œThen Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.โ€

๐Ÿ”Ž Commentary:
Those who reject the Word reject the offer of eternal life.

๐Ÿ”— OT Connection:

  • Isaiah 6:9-10 โ€“ Prophecy of people who hear but refuse to understand.

VIII. Jesus Christ: The Living Word of God

While not using the phrase โ€œword of God,โ€ several verses identify Jesus Himself as the living embodiment of Godโ€™s Word:

๐Ÿ“– John 1:1 (KJV)

โ€œIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.โ€

๐Ÿ“– Revelation 19:13 (KJV)

โ€œAnd he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.โ€

๐Ÿ”Ž Commentary:
Christ is the perfect revelation of Godโ€™s will and characterโ€”He is the Word made flesh (John 1:14). He fulfills everything written in Scripture.
