From “Why Did God Allow” to “Resting in His Finished Work”

From “Why Did God Allow” to “Resting in His Finished Work”

1. God’s Sovereignty Is Rooted in Christ’s Victory

We don’t measure God’s rule by our circumstances — His reign is already secured in the risen Christ.

  • Isaiah 46:9–10 “Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.”

  • Colossians 1:16–17 “For by him were all things created… all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”

  • Hebrews 1:3 “…when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”

2. Judgment Belongs to God Alone

Even the devil remains until the appointed time — because Christ’s timeline, not ours, governs the end of evil.

  • Romans 9:20–21 “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay…?”

  • John 12:31 “Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.”

  • Revelation 20:10 “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire… and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”

3. God’s Timing Is Perfect Because Christ Fulfilled It

The cross happened “in the fullness of time” — and every other event is just as precisely placed.

  • Galatians 4:4 “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law.”

  • Habakkuk 2:3 “…though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

  • Isaiah 60:22 “…I the LORD will hasten it in his time.”

4. God’s Purpose Is Already Secured in Christ

We’re not trying to “make” all things work together — they already do, because the One who holds them is the same One who said “It is finished.”

  • Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

  • Ephesians 1:11 “…being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.”

  • Hebrews 10:14 “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.”

5. Our Posture: Rest, Not Striving

We don’t “obey” to earn — we live from the obedience of Christ that has already been credited to us.

  • Romans 5:19 “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”

  • 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

  • Galatians 2:20 “…the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
