Armor of God is his love and self.

THE ARMOR OF GOD IS THE NEW COVENANT IN METAPHORICAL FORM, BUT NOT A METAPHOR IN THE MODERN SENSE
A Scripture‑anchored correction
Many believers treat the “Armor of God” as if it were literal equipment requiring training, technique, or spiritual warfare practice. Others swing the opposite direction and treat it as a broad metaphor, a mental exercise, or a symbolic way of talking about personal habits and emotional states.
Both are category errors.
When you read Ephesians 6 in the light of Hebrews 8, Ezekiel 36, and Romans 8, the conclusion becomes unavoidable:
The Armor of God is not physical equipment, and it is not a psychological metaphor.
It is the New Covenant reality of God Himself as the only power acting in the believer.
Paul uses imagery, but he is not describing imagination.
He is describing actual spiritual conditions produced by the Spirit of God.
Let Scripture build the case.
1. THE PROMISE OF THE NEW COVENANT (Ezekiel 36)
Ezekiel 36:26–27 (KJV)
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you…
And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes.”
This is not mental discipline.
This is not emotional posture.
This is not symbolic language.
This is God Himself acting inside the human person.
The Spirit does not give you tools.
The Spirit becomes the power that causes obedience.
2. THE FULFILLMENT OF THE NEW COVENANT (Hebrews 😎
Hebrews 8:10 (KJV)
“I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts…”
Hebrews 8:11 (KJV)
“All shall know me…”
Hebrews 8:12 (KJV)
“I will be merciful to their unrighteousness…”
This is not metaphorical psychology.
This is not symbolic imagery.
This is God writing truth into the inner being.
The New Covenant is not a picture.
It is a reality.
3. THE OPERATION OF THE NEW COVENANT (Romans 😎
Romans 8 explains how the Spirit actually functions within the believer.
Romans 8:2 (KJV)
“For the law of the Spirit of life… hath made me free…”
Romans 8:4 (KJV)
“That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us…”
Romans 8:13 (KJV)
“If ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body…”
Romans 8:26 (KJV)
“The Spirit also helpeth our infirmities…”
This is not metaphor.
This is not visualization.
This is not emotional reinforcement.
This is the Spirit Himself producing what the flesh cannot.
4. THE ARMOR OF GOD IS THIS SAME REALITY DESCRIBED IN IMAGERY (Ephesians 6)
Paul is not introducing a new concept.
He is describing the New Covenant realities using military language.
Ephesians 6:14–17 (KJV):
“having your loins girt about with truth”
Truth written on the heart (Heb. 8:10).
“the breastplate of righteousness”
Righteousness fulfilled in us by the Spirit (Rom. 8:4).
“your feet shod with the gospel of peace”
Peace given by Christ Himself (John 14:27).
“the shield of faith”
Faith grounded in God’s faithfulness, not human effort.
“the helmet of salvation”
The finished work applied internally (Heb. 8:12).
“the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”
The Spirit Himself wielding the Word (Rom. 8:26–27).
Paul is not telling believers to imagine armor.
He is not telling them to visualize protection.
He is not telling them to practice spiritual techniques.
He is describing the actual spiritual condition of a person indwelt by the Spirit of God.
The imagery is metaphorical,
but the reality it describes is literal.
5. PAUL’S COMMAND IS NOT “TRAIN.” IT IS “STAND.”
Ephesians 6:13 (KJV)
“and having done all, to stand.”
Ephesians 6:14 (KJV)
“Stand therefore…”
Standing is not mental exercise.
Standing is not emotional posture.
Standing is not symbolic.
Standing is remaining in the reality God has already established.
6. THE THEOLOGICAL CHAIN IS COMPLETE
Ezekiel 36 — God promises internal transformation.
Hebrews 8 — God fulfills it by writing His law inside.
Romans 8 — The Spirit empowers what the flesh cannot.
Ephesians 6 — Paul describes these internal realities using armor imagery.
Therefore:
The Armor of God is not physical equipment, and it is not psychological metaphor.
It is the concrete reality of the New Covenant:
God Himself as the only power acting in the believer.
