IS JESUS GOD?

Scriptural proof that Jesus is God

Pastor Joel – Open Heaven Christian Church – Fisher, Arkansas

🔹 1. Jesus is Called God Directly

John 1:1, 14 (KJV)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…”

  • The “Word” (Greek: Logos) is clearly identified as Jesus in verse 14. It says the Word was God, and then the Word became flesh. Therefore, Jesus is God who became human.

John 20:28 (KJV)

“And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.”

  • After Jesus rose from the dead, Thomas calls Him “My Lord and my God.” Jesus did not correct him, but accepted this worship.

🔹 2. Jesus Is the Creator

Colossians 1:16-17 (KJV)

“For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth… all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”

  • This affirms that Jesus created all things, a role that only God has.

🔹 3. Jesus Is Called “I AM” (the name of God)

John 8:58 (KJV)

“Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”

  • Jesus uses the divine name “I AM” (from Exodus 3:14 where God says, “I AM THAT I AM”).
The Jews understood this and picked up stones to kill Him for blasphemy (see John 8:59).

🔹 4. Jesus Is Worshiped

Worship belongs to God alone (Matthew 4:10), yet Jesus receives worship:

Matthew 14:33 (KJV)

“Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.”

Hebrews 1:6 (KJV)

“And let all the angels of God worship him.”

🔹 5. Jesus Forgives Sins

Mark 2:5-7 (KJV)

“Son, thy sins be forgiven thee… Who can forgive sins but God only?”

  • Jesus forgave sins, and the Pharisees understood this as a claim to divine authority.

🔹 6. Prophecies Declare His Deity

Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)

“For unto us a child is born… and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father…”

  • The Messiah (Jesus) is called The Mighty God and Everlasting Father—titles that belong only to God.

Micah 5:2 (KJV)

“Whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.”

  • The Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem but existed from everlasting—an attribute of God.

🔹 7. Jesus and the Father Are One

John 10:30-33 (KJV)

“I and my Father are one… the Jews took up stones again to stone him… because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.”

  • The Jews rightly understood that Jesus claimed to be equal with God.

🔹 8. Jesus is the Fullness of God in the Flesh

Colossians 2:9 (KJV)

“For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”

  • All that makes God who He is—His essence, nature, and being—dwells bodily in Jesus.

Conclusion

Yes, Jesus is God—not merely a prophet or a good teacher, but God manifest in the flesh:

1 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)
“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh…”

Yes, the Scriptures—especially when studied closely and in context—do reveal that Jesus is God. This truth is central to Christian doctrine and is affirmed in multiple places across both the Old and New Testaments. here are key passages that affirm the divinity of Jesus:

Jesus is both God and man. In scripture Jesus is referred to as the Son of God, and the Son of man.
