Why Jesus? Understanding God’s Love & Our Need for a Savior

“Explain It Like I’m 5…”

At an old job, my supervisor had a way of making sure we truly understood things. After someone explained a topic, he’d always say:

“Great! Now explain it to me like I’m 5 years old.”

That memory stuck with me. Because sometimes, when it comes to understanding God, eternity, and Jesus, we all need it broken down in the simplest way possible.

So here it is.

Who Is God?

God is perfect. He is eternal, just, and righteous. He created everything—time, space, matter, and us: mankind.

And when He created us, He gave us something powerful—free will. That means we have the ability to choose what we do. God won’t force us to do what’s right, but He will lovingly warn us when we’re going the wrong way.

What Went Wrong?

In Genesis 2:16–17, God told Adam:

“You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

God gave Adam and Eve the freedom to choose. And with freedom comes responsibility.

They were created to live in a perfect world—no pain, sickness, death, or struggle. But when they disobeyed God, sin entered the world. And sin separated mankind from God.

“But Why Did God Even Put That Tree There?”

Great question. The answer: Love isn’t real if it’s forced.

If God removed the choice, we’d just be robots programmed to obey. But He wants us to choose Him willingly. That’s what makes a true relationship.

The tree represented that choice. And sadly, Adam and Eve chose disobedience—and we’ve been experiencing the effects of that decision ever since.

What Is Sin, and Why Does It Matter?

God is holy—completely pure and perfect. Sin cannot exist in His presence.

After sin entered the world, God gave us the Ten Commandments—a moral law to show us what is right and wrong. But here’s the thing:

No one has ever kept all ten perfectly.

That’s a problem… because God’s standard for Heaven is perfection. And we all fall short.

Who Is Jesus?

Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ was born—and His birth literally divided time.
B.C. means “Before Christ.”
A.D. means Anno Domini—“The year of our Lord.”

Jesus is not just a man. He is God in human form.
He lived a sinless life. Never lied. Never stole. Never broke a single commandment.
He did what none of us could do—and then He died in our place.

Why Did Jesus Die?

Imagine being in court with a stack of fines. You’re guilty. But someone steps in and pays every fine for you.

That’s what Jesus did.

“We broke the law. Jesus paid the fine.” – Ray Comfort

When Jesus died, He took the punishment we deserved. And when He said “It is finished,” He meant, “The debt has been paid.”

Then, He rose from the dead, proving He has power over sin and death.

Jesus Didn’t Start Existing in a Manger

Jesus is eternal.
In John 8:58, He says:

“Before Abraham was born, I AM.”

That’s the same name God used in Exodus 3:14 when speaking to Moses.

He is the Alpha and Omega—the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:13).
He didn’t start in Bethlehem—He came from eternity to rescue us.

God Wants a Relationship With You

God knows everything about you—the number of hairs on your head, your thoughts, your struggles, your past.

And He still loves you.

He doesn’t want to punish you—He wants to forgive you.
He’s not waiting to condemn you—He’s waiting to welcome you.

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28–30:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest… for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

How Do I Begin?

It starts with one word: Repent.
That means turning away from your old life and turning toward God.

“God, I’ve sinned. I’m sorry. I want to change.”

You don’t have to fix everything right now. You just need to be willing. God will help you. He’ll renew your mind and change your heart.

Romans 8:6 says:

“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”

When You Accept Jesus…

The Holy Spirit comes to live inside you. You’ll still face temptations, but now you’ll have a guide, a comforter, a helper.

Galatians 5:17 says:

“The flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit… They are in conflict with each other…”

That inner struggle is actually a sign of life. It means your heart is still soft. God hasn’t given up on you.

It’s Not Too Late

Hebrews 9:27 says:

“It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”

We don’t get a second life. But we do get a second chance—now.

No matter what you’ve done, Jesus already paid the price. He offers you forgiveness, grace, and eternal life.
You just have to receive it.

Final Words

If you’re still searching for peace, purpose, or healing…
If you’ve tried everything else and nothing fills the void…

You need Jesus.

He already loves you.
He already made a way.
Now it’s your turn to respond.

Romans 6:23:

“The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Let Jesus into your heart today. Talk to Him. Be honest. Surrender.

And never forget:

Keep fighting the good fight. Don’t give up. Choose Jesus.
