One Root, Six Masks, One Cure
“If you pull on a weed’s leaves, it will grow back. But if you grip the root, the whole plant dies. Sin works the same way — it may wear six faces, but it drinks from one root.”
The Root — Self as Source
Genesis 3:5 — “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
That’s the seed — the promise that life can spring from me. Every mask I’m about to name is just that seed in different soil.
The Six Faces
Pride says: I am above you; I made myself. God answers: “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” — Philippians 2:3 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you.” — 1 Peter 5:6
Entitlement says: You owe me. God answers: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.” — 1 Timothy 6:6‑8
Greed says: More will make me whole. God answers: “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.” — Proverbs 11:25 “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” — Acts 20:35
Ego says: I define myself without God. God answers: “But let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.” — Jeremiah 9:24 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” — Galatians 2:20
Merit says: I earned my standing. God answers: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” — Ephesians 2:8‑9 “He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.” — Titus 3:5
Fleshly empowerment says: I can achieve this in my own strength. God answers: “Then he said to me, ‘This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the LORD of hosts.’” — Zechariah 4:6 “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5
The Cure
One root: Self as source. One blindness: Thinking life can spring from me. One cure: “But let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.” — Jeremiah 9:24
When self is dethroned, Christ is enthroned. When the masks fall, the root withers. Grip the root — receive the Life. Abide in Him, and you will bear fruit that lasts.”
