Few Make It To Heaven

Who Will Be Saved? Few Make It To Heaven

According to Jesus, Only few make it Into Heaven

By Pastor Joel – Open Heaven Christian Church – Fisher, Arkansas

This bible study is an in-depth look at the words of Jesus concerning the spiritual condition of people who think they are saved and on their way to heaven. Anyone seeking true answers concerning the odds of them entering into heaven should look at and study what Jesus actually taught in the scriptures concerning the people who think they will make it into heaven, and what Jesus taught concerning those who actually will be entering heaven.

What you are about to read may shock you, and may even upset some folks because in most peoples mind they really believe that when they leave earth they will enter into heaven. My goal in this study is not to shock or upset anyone, but to simply show you what Jesus taught about the saved ones that make it into heaven, and those who don’t.

Will everyone who calls their selves a Christian make it into heaven?

Matthew 7:13–14 (KJV)

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

These words of Jesus are not symbolic—they are literal and terrifying. Jesus clearly warns that the majority of people are on a path that leads to eternal destruction, and only a few will find the way to eternal life. The broad road is popular, easy, and deadly. The narrow path requires self-denial, holiness, and real faith in Christ—not empty religion.

Luke 13:23–24 (KJV)

Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,Strive to enter inat the strait gate: for many,I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.”

The Greek word for “strive” is agonizomai—meaning to fight, contend, and struggle. Salvation is not for the casual seeker. Jesus tells us that many will try to enter Heaven but will fail, because they lacked true repentance, obedience, and a relationship with Him.

Matthew 7:21–23 (KJV)

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;but he that doeth the will of my Fatherwhich is in heaven… And then willI profess unto them,I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

This warning is not for unbelievers, it is a warning by Jesus for professing believers—people who claimed to follow Christ, even doing miracles in His name. But Jesus exposes their iniquity and lack of relationship with Him. These were never saved. He did not say “I once knew you”—He said, “I never knew you” implying that they were never saved to begin with yet they believed that they were following Jesus and were saved. This is a tragic and true sobering truth when we read what Jesus actually taught in the scriptures.

More Scripture Warnings

  • 2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV) – “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves…”
  • Hebrews 12:14 (KJV) – “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.”
  • 1 Peter 4:18 (KJV) – “And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?”
  • Matthew 25:11–12 (KJV) – “Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.”
  • John 14:15 (KJV) – “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
  • Matthew 5:8 (KJV) – “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”

The Final Plea

Jesus never sugar-coated the truth. He gave these warnings because He desires no one to perish. But many will because of the many deceptions that men teach and preach. The religious. The complacent. The unrepentant. Heaven is not the default destination. It is the reward for the faithful.

2 Peter 3:9 (KJV) – “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

Repent of sin. Die to your own will and deny your self. Trust the Lord Jesus Christ. Walk the narrow road because few find it. Make your calling and election sure as taught in 2 Peter 1:10 because one day, all will stand before the judgment seat of Jesus—and only those who truly knew Him will hear the words, “Well done…. enter into my Father’s Kingdom”

2 Peter 1:10 (KJV) – Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

2 Thessalonians 1
11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: 12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 25:31-46 – Parable ofThe Sheep and the Goats
“31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Closing Words:

If you are a professing Christian I pray that you take a few moments to pray, and reflect on the scriptures in this study. Ask the Lord to show you the road you are on. There are only two roads on this journey called life. One leads to eternal life, and the other leads to hell and eternal separation from God – it is the road that many are on and it leads to destruction according to the words of Jesus.

Proverbs 14:12 (KJV) – “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

I pray that this bible study has brought you revelation of Jesus by the Holy Spirit and may the grace of God the Father and of the Lord Jesus Christ sustain you always as you continue to seek the Lord in your journey to eternal life.

Blessings,

Pastor Joel
