Preaching Sermon Title: “In All This, Job Did Not Sin — Why You Must Stop Blaming God!” By Pastor Joel – Open Heaven Christian Church
Theme Scripture: Job 1:22 (KJV)
Today we’re looking at one of the strongest verses in the Bible on faith in suffering .
“In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.” — Job 1:22 (KJV)
Today, we’re going to learn how to respond to pain without accusing God — and what happens when people do blame God w hen bad things happen in their life.
Stay with me, this will strengthen your spirit if you have ever experienced pain and suffering in life.
A righteous man Job had it made in life, he had God in his life, he was happily married, he was blessed with ten children in life, he was wealthy and even had servants who worked for Job to help tend to all of his possessions. Job’s life was going great until calamity struck.
The Bible says that Job was a n “ Upright and Perfect ” man when his life took a turn for the worse. Every thing evil that could ever happen to a person, especially a “ righteous person ” who feared God and avoided evil happened.
“ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright , and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. ” — Job 1:1 (KJV)
Job lost his children, his wealth, his health, his friends turned against him and began accusing him of living a life of sin, his wife even said to Job “curse God and die ” – (Job 2:9). This statement his wife made to Job after everything that was happening in their lives would have been a major blow to Job emotionally, and to his faith in God at a time when Job was already in despair and turmoil. What she said to Job not only would have hurt Job deeply, but implies she did not want anything else to do with him, she tells Job to only curse God, but also to die and suggests she did not want to continue living her life with Job.
Yet Scripture says that in everything that happened in his life — Job never blamed God for all his troubles. T he pain he suffered when his life took a major turn for the worse must have been very hard for Job to bare.
✅ INTRO PRAYER
Father, open our hearts and our understanding. When life hurts, help us not to accuse You but to trust You in all things that pertain to life. Strengthen us like you strengthened Job when he experienced deep pain and suffering. In Jesus name, Amen.
✅ SECTION 1 — JOB’S TEST
Satan attacked Job’s:
Job 1:13-19
“And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house: And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: And the Sabeans fell upon them , and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house: And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.”
Everything fell apart — yet he said:
“The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” — Job 1:21 (KJV)
Job grieved — but he continued to worship God . He didn’t say, “God, why would You do this to me?”
He understood:
“God is good — even when life does not seem fair.”
✅ SECTION 2 — MANY BLAME GOD FOR THEIR TROUBLES
The Bible shows others who faced pain and pointed the finger at God.
📍 Adam
“The woman Thou gavest me …” — Genesis 3:12
Adam blamed Eve… and God.
📍 Israel in the wilderness
“Why has the LORD brought us here to die?” — Numbers 14:3
Instead of trusting God, they accused God.
📍 Naomi
“The Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.” — Ruth 1:20
She didn’t see God working behind her pain yet.
📍 Gideon
“If the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us?” — Judges 6:13
They all felt pain — but pain doesn’t justify accusing God.
✅ SECTION 3 — GOD DOESN’T MIND HONEST QUESTIONS
Job cried. “I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not . ” — Job 3:20 (KJV)
Job questioned God multiple times, directly questioning God of being unjust and asking why the wicked prosper while the innocent suffer . — (Job 21:7 KJV). God responds not with direct answers but with a series of challenging questions that demanded a response from Job in return, God’s questions starting with “ Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding . ” — ( Job 38:4 KJV)
Job’s questioning is a central part of th is biblical story, as is Job’ s ultimate admission that his understanding is too limited in understanding everything that happened to his life .
Job hurt deeply and at one point in his life during all of his troubles he desired to speak to God in God’s heavenly court to question God, but Job never crossed the line into accusing God of wrongdoing. “Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God. ” — (Job 13:3 KJV).
God can handle our “Lord, I don’t understand” as Job didn’t understand, and God can handle our tears and questions, but one must never accuse God for any wrongdoing.
God cannot bless a person who is:
Job didn’t understand the situation, but he trusted God’s character.
✅ SECTION 4 — YOUR PAIN IS NOT POINTLESS
God allowed Job’s test — but He also blessed Job with double at the end of Job’s life, more blessings than at the beginning of his life.
Your tears are not wasted as you trust in the Lord.
Romans 8:28 says:
“ All things work together for good to them that love God.”
Job loved and trusted God and everything worked out for good in his life! Even in his suffering the outcome was for the good, even when he did not understand, good resulted from everything he experienced in life.
Not some things — all things.
God never loses control during your storms in life. He is working behind the scenes to shape us and prepare us for a better life then we presently are living.
What did Job learn in all of his pain and suffering?
God is the only one that can truly be trusted even when terrible things in life happen and everyone abandons you and no one seems to care anymore. — (Jeremiah 17:5 KJV)
Job learned that when you continue to believe and trust God people who’s heart is not in the right place will dessert and betray you as soon as a major test in life happens to you, as in the case of Jesus when he was about to go to the cross. Jesus stood alone during the lowest time of his life. — (Mark 14:48-50 KJV)
Job learned a valuable lesson all believers in Christ Jesus must learn, “FORGIVENESS ” of those who accuse you and turn against you during a difficult time in your life as in the life of Job. (Job 22:5-9 KJV).
Job learned that when people who lack knowledge of God attack you, you must never engage in theological debates with them about why one is going through hard times in life. He also realized that his friends who accused him of wrongdoing when he was actually living a righteous life lacked understanding about the love of God and God one must allow God to deal with their folly and lack of understanding abut God. (Job 42:7 -8 KJV).
God was preparing Job for a healing ministry that started with the very people that came against him, only a humble and righteous man before God would pray for those who have come against him (Job 42:8-9 KJV).
Job came to the understanding that God who streached out the heavens knows what is needed in a persons life even when things seem to be going great or terrible, when blessings are flowing or not.
When Job repented and humbled himself before God, his repentance led to a closer and more intimate walk with the Lord. (Job 42:5-6 KJV)
Towards the end of Job’s life he realized what’s more important in life. He learned that material blessings, fake religious friendships that lead to discord and strife, and a marriage that was based on how well things were going was not the life God wanted for him.
Job was put in a position where his only hope was to either trust God or curse him and die. The choice he made was to trust God no matter what life throws at him, and at the end of his life he was blessed twice as much as all that he had, his family, and relationships were restored, his health was completely restored, he discovered a closer relationship with God! The Lord restored Job’s entire life.
Job 42:10-17 KJV
“And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold. So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. He had also seven sons and three daughters. And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch. And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations. So Job died, being old and full of days. ”
✅ PRACTICAL TAKEAWAY
When you’re hurting:
Worship, don’t accuse God, humble yourself and God will lift you up!
“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. ” (James 4:10 KJV)
Trust God’s heart when you can’t trace His hand!
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. ” (Proverbs 3:5 KJV)
Remember: Experiencing difficult trials reveal faith and produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit — “patience”, trials are not meant to destroy us, but to make us stronger in the Lord and to teach us not trust in what we’ve accomplished in this life, but to trust in the Lord who leads us into a path in life where there is eternal peace and blessings that remain.
“ My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this , that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. ” (James 1:2-4 KJV)
Say this out loud:
“Lord, I don’t understand, but I trust You.”
That’s what Job did — and Heaven recorded it forever.
